Trainings & School Partnerships
Safeguarding is often reduced to compliance. But what children need is emotional safety, not just physical protection.
At Nairobi Attach, we see safeguarding as a living practice — woven into how adults see, respond to, and support children every day.
Our work is about more than reporting risks. It’s about creating spaces where trauma is recognized early, behaviour is understood with compassion, and adults are equipped to act with clarity and courage.
1. Train teachers on trauma, attachment, and child protection
We equip school staff with practical, trauma-informed tools to understand and respond to children’s emotional needs.
Our trainings include:
- Child Protection & Safeguarding: Teachers learn how to recognize signs of abuse, understand their statutory responsibilities under Kenya’s Children Act (2022), and follow proper reporting and referral procedures.
- Attachment Awareness: We explore how broken bonds or disrupted care affect behavior and learning, and offer classroom strategies to build trust and co-regulation.
- Trauma-Smart Practices: Teachers gain insight into how trauma impacts the brain, and how to interpret behaviors not as defiance — but as communication.
2. Conduct safeguarding audits & develop custom policies
Many schools have safeguarding policies — but they exist only on paper. Nairobi Attach helps schools bridge the gap between written policies and lived practice. We offer:
- Child Protection Audits: We assess current systems, staff confidence, reporting culture, and readiness to act when children are at risk.
- Gap Identification: Audits highlight missing or unclear processes, outdated policies, and points of vulnerability.
- Custom Policy Development: We co-create legally compliant, usable safeguarding policies — including:
- Clear reporting flowcharts
- Codes of conduct
- Referral procedures
- Child-friendly posters
- Quick-reference handbooks for staff and parents
3. Support implementation of Kenyan-context strategies
Nairobi Attach doesn’t stop at training. We walk with schools as they bring safeguarding and trauma-awareness to life. Our implementation support includes:
- On-site coaching for Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) and pastoral staff
- Child-friendly disclosure systems (e.g. posters, safe reporting language)
- Parent and community sensitization sessions
- WhatsApp Safeguarding Circle for daily tools and support
- Aligning practice with Kenyan law, not foreign templates — rooted in the Children Act (2022) and school-specific context
This ensures that safeguarding becomes part of the school culture, not just its documentation.
